Good evening Pack 333 families,
We've got a busy next couple weeks for the start of our Scout year.
Back to School Nights: We've had three excellent Back to School nights and there are two more Back to School Nights at West Friendship Elementary School on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6pm and we could use some help. If you are interested, please signup on the link below.
Camping: Our next camping trip is scheduled for 15 -17 September 2023 at Marsden Tract in Potomac, MD. This site along the Potomac has fishing, biking, hiking, and other activities for Cubs and families to participate. (https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/251544). We'll do some campfire cooking (and of course smores) as well as practice some basic skills and sleep out under the stars. The Pack does family camping, so siblings are welcome with Cubs and parents; if you are interested in attending, please sign up on the link below. Separate emails will be going out shortly regarding logistics and events.
September Pack Meeting: We're rapidly approaching the Pack meeting and Bear Carnival on 19 September 2023 at 6:30pm at St. James United Methodist Church. Our Bears and Webelos will help the younger Dens lead different activities. IF you have any items you are willing to be used (and returned) for the activities below, please let your Den Leaders know (you can log in to Scoutbook and find your Den and Den Leader contacts). I've also created yet another sign-up genius for our Cub participants (https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805044AABAA2CA5FB6-bear). This will be our recruiting event, so if you know of folks interested or curious about Scouting, this is an opportunity for them to see and also talk with families and leaders.
Lion - meet and greet, prizes
Tiger - ring toss, pole noodle racers, magnetic fishing
Wolf - hulu hoop hop, cup tower balance, paddle catch
Bear - stick balance, bean bag toss, rain gutter regatta
Webelos - Bike and scooter obstacle course, broom push race, water shoot
AOLs - tent building, stomp rockets, giant tic tac toe
BALOO and/or IOLS Training: For us to participate in outdoor overnight activities, such as camp outs, we need to have BALOO (Basic Adult Leadership Outdoor Orientation) or IOLS (Introduction to Outdoor Leadership Skills) trained adults. The skills taught are based on the outdoor skills found in The Cub Scout Leader Book (BALOO) or Scout Handbook (IOLS) and focuses on skills that build confidence and competence in leaders conducting outdoor camping experiences. It involves a a pre-event gathering as well as Friday night camp over and Saturday training and is a good way to connect with other Packs and Troops. If you are interested, please reach out and we will work with you to get registered. (https://scoutingevent.com/220)
You are welcome to forward it to those you feel would be interested.
As always, any questions, comments, suggestions are welcome.
Respectfully,
Tara Lydick, Cubmaster Pack 333
